The Bombers Loose Ring Snaffle Bit combines a curved, single-jointed mouthpiece with freely moving loose rings for clear communication and a prompt release when rein pressure is softened.

The curved mouthpiece distributes pressure more evenly across the tongue and bars, while the offset centre joint helps reduce concentrated tongue pressure and the nutcracker action associated with traditional snaffles.

Its action may encourage a horse with a low head carriage to lift its head, although suitability depends on the individual horse.

Features

  • Curved mouthpiece: Designed for more even pressure distribution across the tongue and bars.
  • Offset centre joint: Helps reduce concentrated pressure on the tongue.
  • Loose rings: Allow independent movement and help the mouthpiece return to a neutral position when rein pressure is released.
  • Single-jointed design: Offers a familiar snaffle action with Bombers’ ergonomic refinements.

Size & Fit

Bombers bit sizes identify width and thickness separately. For example, 125 B14 means the mouthpiece is 125 mm wide and 14 mm thick.

Thickness Code Mouthpiece Thickness
B10 10 mm
B12 12 mm
B14 14 mm
B16 16 mm

Width is the mouthpiece measurement between the cheekpieces, excluding the rings. Thickness is the diameter of the mouthpiece.

Choose thickness to suit the space available in your horse’s mouth. A thicker bit is not automatically more comfortable.

Measuring & Choosing Your Size

Measure your horse’s mouth where the bit would normally sit, without compressing the lips.

Bombers’ sizing guide considers both cheekpiece style and mouthpiece design:

  • Loose ring cheekpieces: Allow 5 mm beyond the uncompressed mouth measurement to help prevent pinching.
  • Single-jointed mouthpieces: Bombers specifies an additional 10 mm allowance for the mouthpiece to settle in the mouth.

Refer to the official Bombers Bit Sizing Guide when selecting your size. Check the final fit for comfortable lip clearance, free ring movement and excessive sideways movement.
